The Buzzard’s MTG Ladder: Our Community Ranking System

The Buzzard’s MTG Ladder is a locally run ranking system created by The Lazy Buzzard to celebrate our players and strategists. It’s designed to reward participation, creativity, sportsmanship, and epic moments across our Magic: The Gathering events.

We believe in play that reflects our values: connection, creativity, and kindness. Whether you’re a seasoned duelist or a first-time player, The Buzzard’s MTG Ladder is here to foster friendships within a lighthearted competitive framework. Joining is FREE!

This ranking system is independently created and operated by The Lazy Buzzard. It is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast or the Wizards Play Network (WPN).

🪶 House Rule: “If You Own It, You Can Play It”

At The Lazy Buzzard, we keep things simple: No proxies. If you own the card, you can play the card. We do, however, encourage players to have deck power level discussions before events — to help ensure fun, fair, and memorable games for everyone.

This rule applies to all Buzzard-hosted Magic events and Seasons unless otherwise noted. It helps us keep the game fair, accessible, and rooted in the joy of building decks from your own collection. Occasionally, specific events or Seasons may include banned card rules — if so, a clear list will be provided.

🪶 Seasonal Climb: The Buzzard’s Way

The Buzzard’s MTG Ladder resets every three months— four times a year. Each season brings new chances to earn points, climb the ranks, and earn prizes.

For the Inaugural Season, December 2025 will be included in Season One 2026 (January through March)

Winter winds favor the kind and the cunning. Spring sparks reward the bold. Summer skies lift the generous. Autumn shadows remember the wise.

✨ Seasonal Enchantments: Buzzard’s Twists

Each season, the Buzzard may cast a subtle enchantment across the MTG Ladder — a twist that nudges deckbuilding, rewards creativity, or sparks unexpected combos. These effects are designed to keep things fresh.

Examples:

  • “All Birds get +1/+1 this season.”

  • “Spells with mana value 1 cost {1} less to cast.”

  • “Each player starts with a Clue token.”

  • “Cards with flavor text referencing flight earn +1 MTG Ladder point when played.”

At The Lazy Buzzard, victory is just one way to rise. The Buzzard’s MTG Ladder rewards not only sharp play, but generous spirit and community engagement. Whether you’re dueling for glory or helping a new player learn the game, you earn points — and every point brings you closer to the top.

Below is the current point system used for all Buzzard-hosted Magic events. Totals reset each season, but legends? Legends live on.
